Details of the Club printer and its use by members
The Club printer, purchased with Club funds in spring 2023, is a Canon Pro-200 (details here from Canon site).
It can print up to A3 for standard sizes, but it can also take paper cut from a 13” roll, of any length up to 39”. There is also available, ‘panorama’ paper as a pre-cut size, which is equivalent to two A4 sheets next to each other.
The printer can take the usual range of paper types, and the standard paper used is made by Canon. The gloss paper is very ‘glossy’, and, whilst it is a very tactile paper, might ‘suffer’ from reflections if it is wall-mounted with a light behind the viewer. Semi-gloss is the default paper that we would use, unless the nature of the photograph (eg monochrome) calls for a matte paper.
Members are able to have their photographs printed on the Club printer for their own personal use, such as for albums or display, or for gifts. We can mount a print, up to A3, on 3mm foamboard, but it is expected that a print would be destined for a frame, for display., so need not be mounted.
The cost of printing is £4 for using an A3 sheet, and £2 for an A4 sheet. A ‘2 x A4’ panorama is £4. A, say, ‘2 x 13”’ print is £5 and pro-rata, as the paper is cheaper when taken off a roll.
Prints of A4-size or below might be cheaper if purchased online. Using the Club printer for A3 and above, and panorama, prints is likely to be cost effective. It is also worth looking at framing costs when deciding whether or not to use the Club printer.
