What we do

The Club meets once a fortnight, between September and June. Starting at 7.00pm, a typical meeting lasts between one and two hours.

We have a varied programme of meetings each year.

  • Talks; these can be of personal journeys in photography, practical aspects of technique or genres, or anything broadly connected with photography. Often given voluntarily by Club members, we do try and bring in outside speakers.

  • Themed evenings; occasionally, members can offer photographs they have taken, inspired by a particular theme. At these meetings, we view the images, each often accompanied by explanations and supportive discussions.

  • Outdoor meetings; once or twice a year, Club members have a chance to meet in a location chosen to offer material for interesting photography. Resulting photographs are viewed at the following meeting.

  • Competitions; the Club has two internal competitions, which members may wish to take part in. There is also an annual inter-club competition.

We also have two or three social events each year, especially at Christmas and at the end of the Club’s season.

There is no obligation for members to contribute images to themed events or competitions. Members who wish to improve their technique in using a camera or who wish to get a better eye for a good photograph will find themselves in supportive and helpful company.

We welcome members who put the photograph ahead of the camera; it’s about colours, textures, composition, emotions and technique, rather than equipment, brands and accessories.
